Farming 1990 - today

Since 1947 the land use has shifted from wool and meat production, to grain production.

The use of science, and the increase in fertility of 60 years of soil nutrition, has enabled a variety of crop to be grown. Wheat, Canola, Barley, Lupins, Peas and Beans are grown along side meat and wool.
Just as the early farmers looked to the stars for direction, the use of satelite technology is used by most farmers today.
With satelite technology and automatic steering the second crop, in a rotation, can be sown between the rows of the previous years crop.

At harvest, a paddock map is made as the grain is weighed when it comes into the grain tank of the harvester. This map is transfered to the farm computer and any problem areas can be identified.

The world of farming has moved from the days of virgin scrub to precision agriculture in one generation.
